Who we are

Meet Ashley & Kristen — Co-Founders of Bread Habits

Bread Habits began the way most good things do — with two friends, a lot of carbs, and a shared love of creating something that brings people comfort.

I’m Ashley, the co-founder of Bread Habits, and the maker behind our spreads and jams. I grew up surrounded by family members who were always cooking something on the stove or baking something in the oven. I love throwing a dinner party and get way too excited about the menu. Cooking has always been my outlet. Balancing a career and an active life can be challenging, but the rhythm of cooking—chopping, stirring, tasting—grounds me.

When Kristen began her sourdough journey, I immediately started thinking about what pairs beautifully with a warm loaf. As someone who lives for a slice of sourdough topped with salted French butter and jam, I began experimenting with my own variations. One batch turned into another, and soon my kitchen became a jam-testing lab. Eventually, I told Kristen we should do something with our combined creations—and that’s how Bread Habits was born.

I’m Kristen, co-founder of Bread Habits and the baker behind our breads and baked goods. Making bread is my therapy. There’s something deeply rewarding about transforming flour, water, and salt into something beautiful—and delicious. I didn’t grow up cooking or baking, but I grew up around it —my aunt’s cakes, my grandmother’s homemade pies, & my mom’s deliciously soft rolls — the women in my family have been creating something warm in the kitchen for as long as I can remember. And ever since I was a young child, I’ve said carbs are my favorite food.

Stanley—my sourdough starter—was born about a year ago, and since then, he and I have made countless loaves, rolls, pastries, and experiments together. What began as a simple “I wonder if I can make bread?” turned into a full obsession and a craft I genuinely love. I enjoy the challenge of trying new methods and putting my own spin on recipes.

Together, we created Bread Habits as a celebration of food rituals — the little moments that make bread more than just bread. Whether you love it toasted, buttered, jam-topped, dipped, or used as the base of your favorite comfort meal, bread becomes part of your routine. Part of your habit. Bread Habits captures that feeling — the joy of making, sharing, and savoring simple, delicious moments.
